What is Drop Forged?
For centuries blacksmith hammered red-hot iron into simple shapes and tools. Over the centuries blacksmiths discovered new techniques of creating complex shapes by hammering metal into a die the shape of the desired finished product. Today, instead of hammering the metal by hand, manufacturers use either a falling hammer or a powered hammer to hammer the metal into the dies. This process is referred to as drop forging.
The process of manufacturing drop forge tools improves the metal?s strength by aligning and stretching the grain structure, creating tools that are usually stronger than those that are manufactured by casting or machining.
